Chalk it up!

DIY Outdoor Chalk Board

How do you “chalk it up?”

Hello sweet friends and fellow bloggers!  Are you ready to see how a

does a project and makes it look SOO EASY while looking completely flawless…?

Well if you haven’t already closed the screen, let me tell you…
YOU will not find “flawless” here!

Whenever I scroll through pinterest I feel like I can do every, single, thing!  Even if that “thing” requires a degree in engineering. There is a strong chance I might be missing the part of the brain that is used for reasoning and caution…

so  I usually sing and dance my way into it…

Which leads me into my next project and what this post is all about!

An outdoor chalkboard!

I saw something similar on pinterest and wanted to give it a whirl!  Especially since I remembered I bought some Chalk Board paint awhile back for a BBQ Basket!  Before I knew it,  I was headed off to Lowes for the rest of my supplies:

  • 4×4 square piece of plywood

  • 2- 18ft 2×4’s

  • have them cut it (most lowes will do 2 cuts for free)

  • chalk board spray paint

  • colored paint (whatever color you want the frame to be)

 Happy Mama’s Day to me!

I had  all my supplies, my kids were sleeping so I decided to start on my project out in the back yard.  I had everything laid out except my chalk board paint so I went in to try and find it.

It wasn’t 5 minutes later and I heard my oldest, Colton, SCREAMING! I’m thinking Seriously?!?! I come outside and this is what I see…

Yes I know Happy Mothers Day from my boys!

Needless to say my Mothers Day  project was put on hold.  Now I’m researching how to get spray paint out of my boys hair!

A few weeks later I was able to finish my project just in time for my daughters birthday party!

We have had so much fun drawing on that chalk board and it was super simple to make!  A few helpful hints:  I  think the frame helps the chalk board stand out on the fence (highly recommend) and I touch it up with the chalk board spray paint before parties!  It helps keep the chalkboard looking fresh!

This is perfect for my little doodler!

This is the finished result! As you can see we love it!
